Gone Girl Playlist
Dollhouse by Melanie Martinez
This song is a part of the the theme playlist of Gone Girl because it is about a creepy family that is faking to be perfect like a dollhouse. It is like someone is playing with them just like how Amy plays with Nick and everyone in the book. They are all of her little dolls and she is just playing with them and they can't do anything about it but lie with her. Even if they want to they cannot speak the truth. When Amy plays with people as if they're dolls she always has it right, in the book they even said it when Tommy O'hara one of Amy's past toys told Nick, "I bet whatever she's got cooked up for you, it's drum-f*cking-tight. You should be f*cking scared."(Flynn 278) Reinforcing the idea that Amy can play anyone without losing. Just like how in this song it starts with "Hey girl, open the walls, play with your dolls , we'll be a perfect family. When you walk away, is when we really play." Everyone in the book is Amy's dolls but when she is not around they play around on their own, and Nick cheats on Amy, but Nick gets in a ton of trouble for this and almosts gets arrested and the death penalty.
This song also relates to when Amy comes back to Missouri and her and Nick pretend to still love each other, in the song it sings "Places, places, get in your places,Throw on your dress and put on your doll faces.Everyone thinks that we're perfect. Please don't let them look through the curtains." Nick and Amy have to put on ''dollfaces'' and pretend that they are in love because everyone thinks that Amy is perfect and amazing, and if not than Amy could get caught for lying and murder. Nick says, "We pretend to be in love, and we do the things we like to do when we're in love, and it feels almost like love sometimes, because we are so perfectly putting ourselves through the paces." (Flynn 404) Everyone in the Novel Gone Girl is just being played like dolls or pretending to be picture perfect dolls.

Young and Beautiful- Lana Del Rey
This song would represent from Amy's mind. How she feels that once a girl isn't a young cool girl anymore she isn't as important in a man's eyes. The entire book Amy talks about being not good enough and becoming old and in this song sings about if someone will still love her when she isn't young and beautiful. Just like how Amy realizes that when she no longer acts like a "Cool Girl" that Nick falls out of love with her. It is a lot more like Diary Amy from the beginning of the book when she is wondering what Nick thinks of her, and from when they are in love. |
Settle Down - Kimbra
This song represents the theme of how Amy wants Nick to be. The song is very creepy and is talking about settling down and having a family, and seeing the man with someone else, which is just what happened to Amy. In this song she repeatedly sings "Won't you settle down with me?" just like how in the book amy makes Nick stay with her, even though she almost framed him for her murder. |
