Why We Chose Gone Girl

Brief Summary
A perfect couple, Nick and Amy Dunne have to leave their old life and move to a new state where everything changes. Amy does not fit into Missouri, while Nick continues to ignore her as he loses his job, and his mother dies. Nick covers up his problems through alcohol, sex and a young mistress. Amy soon goes missing and Nick's life starts falling apart, as he is framed for his wife murder. Will the survive this? Will they stay the perfect couple? Or will everything change?

Gillian Flynn was born in Kansas City Missouri on February 24, 1971. Growing up she liked reading and watching suspenseful movies. During high school, she took many weird part-time jobs. For example, unwrapping and re-wrapping ham and dressing up as yogurt cones in a tuxedo. After that she got a undergraduate degree in English and journalism from University of Kansas. She proceeded to get a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern. Flynn considered being a crime reporter but decided to follow a different path of writing books. She then started to write books like Sharp Objects, Dark Places, and Gone Girl.

Interesting Facts
- The Movie Gone Girl got 3 awards in 2015, they were BFCA Critics' Choice Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, Empire Award for Best Actress, People's Choice Award for Favorite Thriller Movie. The book only got one article which was the goodreads Best Mystery and Thriller.
- The place the film was made in Cape Girardeau, in Missouri. Some of the places in the story is actually in the town. The bar is an actual place in the town, also the courthouse was based on the town’s courthouse.
- In the movie the director chose Ben Affleck was chosen because of his smile. His smile was said “fits nick’s smile”. They said after seeing pictures of his smile they instantly asked him to play the part.
- The actor who played Amy (Rosamund Pike) also played the good Witch of the West in the new version of Wizard of Oz
- Some scenes were based on a comic from the National Lampoon in 1997. The comic strip was about “bad marriages” which fit well in for the movie.
